Six Things You Can Do On A Yacht

By: Kathrina Scholtz
I know what you’re thinking. With a Yacht as your playground there’s only one thing to do - lie in the sun and look gorgeous (or handsome, if that happens to suit you better). But as if the lying-in-the-sun looking gorgeous option wasn’t enough, there are a few more ways for you to keep yourself entertained on your yachting holiday.

1). Lying in the sun looking gorgeous

So, as has been discussed, this one is self-evident. What you may not be aware of is the number of ways and places available for you to lie in the sun and look gorgeous when on a Yacht. Most Yachts have a deck with sun chairs, where you can lie and look at the ocean, and a few have specially built sun deck sofas that offer a comfortable level of luxury tanning. A number even have onboard swimming pools, which perhaps offer friendlier conditions than the ocean.

2). Take a shot at steering

This naturally depends on how open your Captain is to you meddling with his pride and joy. If you find him amenable however, you might want to take a shot at the steering and navigation of the Yacht. This is no easy task, but with the guidance of your Captain’s expert knowledge of the weather and tidal conditions; you might just learn a new skill. Being at the helm of an impressive Yacht is also an experience you shouldn’t pass up while you can claim it.

3). Go for a helicopter ride

Ok, so this one isn’t technically taking place on the Yacht, but as launch pads go – some Yachts offer pretty amazing ones and deserve a mention. Viewing the ocean you’re sailing on from a completely different perspective can be an awe-inspiring experience.

4). Hanging out in the bar or partying on the dance floor

It’s tough to lie in the sun when the sun just isn’t there, which means there has to be something to keep you entertained in the evenings. In steps the onboard bar, dance floor, and sometimes even private nightclub. Sipping cocktails while staring out at the expansive ocean or city lights (depending on where you’re docked) can be the perfect venue for a grand night, or even a location for the pre-party if you’re planning on hitting the local nightspots.

5). Relaxing with some movies, or surfing the net

Admittedly, we’re unlikely to go on a yachting holiday in order to watch television, but it is nice to know that the option is there. Many Yachts come fully equipped with onboard Wi-Fi and plasma screen TV’s, so, on a night in, a group movie viewing might be just what you feel like.

6). Watersports

For the active at heart there is also always an array of watersports possible when yachting – whether it’s water-skiing or scuba diving, it is well worth investigating the local conditions where you are yachting to see what’s possible. There is, after all, nothing wrong with some exhilaration to punctuate those days lying in the sun.
